Classic Boiled Shrimp
A simple yet flavorful classic boiled shrimp recipe that is perfect for any occasion.

1 | teaspoon cayenne pepper |
1 | teaspoon dried marjoram |
1⁄2 | teaspoon dried basil |
1⁄4 | teaspoon dried thyme |
1⁄8 | teaspoon caraway seed |
1 | teaspoon mustard seeds |
1⁄8 | teaspoon cumin seed |
1⁄4 | teaspoon fennel seed |
8 | water |
1 | large lemon, quartered |
1 | clove garlic, minced |
2 | large shrimp, peeled and deveined |
Instructions
1. | In a double or triple thickness of cheesecloth, combine all the spices including bay leaves, peppercorns, whole cloves, cayenne pepper, dried marjoram, dried basil, dried thyme, caraway seed, mustard seeds, cumin seed, and fennel seed. |

2. | Secure the spice packet with a piece of string. |
3. | In a dutch oven, combine 8 cups of water, lemon quarters, minced garlic, and the prepared spice bag. |
4. | Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 3 minutes. |
5. | Add the peeled and deveined large shrimp to the pot and bring it back to a boil. |
6. | Boil the shrimp for 3 to 5 minutes until they are cooked through. |
7. | Drain the shrimp thoroughly and chill before serving. |
8. | Serve the classic boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce on the side. |
