Classic Tuna Salad With Capers

This classic tuna salad keeps the familiar creamy base and adds finely chopped celery, carrot, onion, and briny capers for crunch and balance. Lemon juice and a little Dijon mustard brighten the dressing without changing the simple deli-style character of the dish.
Ingredients
2 | cans albacore tuna, 5-ounce, packed in water, drained well |
|---|---|
1⁄2 | cup celery, finely diced |
1⁄4 | cup carrot, finely diced |
1⁄4 | cup sweet onion, finely diced |
1⁄3 -1⁄2 | cup mayonnaise |
2 | tablespoons caper, drained and roughly chopped |
1 | tablespoon lemon juice, fresh |
1 | teaspoon Dijon mustard |
1⁄4 | teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste |
1⁄4 | teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground |
Instructions
| 1. | Flake the drained tuna into a medium mixing bowl with a fork. |
|---|---|
| 2. | Add the celery, carrot, onion, and capers, and toss until evenly combined. |
| 3. | Stir in 1/3 cup mayonnaise, the lemon juice, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. |
| 4. | Fold gently until the salad is creamy but still textured, adding more mayonnaise if you prefer it looser. |
| 5. | Taste and adjust with more salt, pepper, or lemon juice before serving. |
