This traditional Greek salad is a classic Mediterranean dish that features fresh vegetables, feta cheese, olives, and herbs. It is a refreshing and flavorful salad that can be enjoyed as a meal on its own or as a side dish.

2 | medium-sized tomatoes, sliced |
---|---|
1 | long cucumber, sliced |
2 | green bell peppers, sliced |
1 | handful big, fleshy olives |
1 | medium-sized onion, thinly sliced (add more for a stronger flavor) |
1 | cup extra virgin olive oil |
1 | cakes feta cheese, crumbled |
2 | sea salt, to taste |
2 | dried oregano, to sprinkle |
Instructions
1. | Begin by cutting the tomatoes, onions, and peppers in half, then slice them. |
---|---|
2. | Peel the cucumber and slice it. Alternatively, if desired, you can leave the cucumber unpeeled. |
3. | Sprinkle the sea salt over the vegetables. |
4. | Layer the salad in the following order: start with the olives, followed by slices of feta cheese, then drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, and finally sprinkle with oregano. |
5. | For a traditional Greek eating experience, serve the salad with a loaf of white bread. Tear off large pieces of bread, dip them into the oil released by the salad ingredients, and enjoy eating them. This eating technique, known as 'papara,' transforms the Greek salad from a simple side dish into a hearty meal. |
