Ingredients

6 green bell peppers, cored and halved
1 lb ground beef
12 cup onion, chopped
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1 egg, whisked
12 cup breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground pepper
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
12 teaspoon oregano
14 teaspoon parsley
1 cup tomato sauce
14 cup water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
14 teaspoon dried oregano
14 teaspoon dried basil
14 teaspoon garlic powder
14 teaspoon parsley flakes
14 teaspoon salt
14 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Lightly grease a baking pan with cooking spray.
3. In a pot of boiling salted water, blanch the green bell peppers for 5 minutes.
4. Gently mix the ground beef mixture, combining all ingredients from ground beef to parsley, excluding the tomato sauce topping.
5. Using a tablespoon, carefully stuff each green bell pepper with the meat mixture.
6. Prepare the tomato sauce by mixing the tomato sauce, water, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, garlic powder, parsley flakes, salt, and pepper.
7. Spread 2 tablespoons of the tomato sauce mixture at the bottom of the baking pan.
8. Arrange the meat-stuffed peppers in the pan.
9. Drizzle the remaining tomato sauce over the stuffed peppers.
10. If desired, place a piece of bacon on top of each stuffed pepper.
11. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes.
12. Serve hot, spooning some of the tomato sauce 'gravy' over each stuffed pepper.
