Ingredients for Classic Vanilla Panna Cotta

½ cup half-and-half
1 (¼ ounce) envelope unflavored gelatin
2 cups heavy cream
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
6 tablespoons white sugar

Instructions

  • Preparing the Panna Cotta

    1. In a medium saucepan, sprinkle the contents of the gelatin packet over the half-and-half and let it stand for 5 minutes.
    2. Over low heat, stir the gelatin mixture until it is completely dissolved.
    3. Add the heavy cream.
    4. Add half of the vanilla extract and sugar.
    5. Continuously stir over low heat until the sugar is fully dissolved.
    6. Taste the mixture and add the remaining vanilla extract if desired.
  • Setting and Serving

    1. Lightly coat the insides of 4-1/2 cup ramekins with canola oil.
    2. Carefully ladle the cream mixture into the ramekins and allow it to cool.
    3. Place the ramekins in the fridge and let the panna cotta set for at least 4 hours.
    4. Serve the panna cotta in the ramekins or unmold for a stylish presentation.
    5. Garnish with fresh fruit before serving.
