Ingredients

For the pretzel salad

2 cups crushed pretzels
34 cup melted butter
3 tablespoons sugar, plus additional for the cream cheese mixture
34 cup sugar for the cream cheese mixture
1 package (8 ounce) cream cheese, softened
1 container (8 ounce) whipped topping
2 packages (3 ounce) strawberry gelatin
2 cups boiling water
2 packages (10 ounce) frozen strawberries, thawed
1 can (8 ounce) crushed pineapple, drained
whipped topping or whipped cream, for garnish

Instructions

  • For the salad

    1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    2. In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Blend until evenly mixed.
    3. Press this pretzel mixture firmly into a 9 by 13-inch baking dish and bake for 7 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool completely.
    4. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese together with ¾ cup of sugar until smooth and creamy.
    5. Gently fold in the whipped topping and spread the mixture evenly over the cooled pretzel crust.
    6. Place the dish in the refrigerator and allow it to chill thoroughly.
    7. In a small bowl, dissolve the strawberry gelatin in the boiling water and let it cool slightly.
    8. Incorporate the strawberries and crushed pineapple into the gelatin mixture, then pour it over the cream cheese layer.
    9. Refrigerate until you are ready to serve.
