Colonial Dressing Recipe Inspired by Bob Evans
A delicious homemade version of the famous Bob Evans Colonial Dressing to elevate your salads and slaws.
Ingredients

1 | teaspoon onion powder |
1 | tablespoon salt |
¼ | cup butter or margarine |
½ | teaspoon pepper |
1 | teaspoon celery salt |
1 | tablespoon celery seed |
Instructions

2. | In a high-speed blender, blend water and cornstarch until smooth. Transfer the mixture to a 2 1/2-quart saucepan. |
3. | Cook the mixture over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Gradually add each of the remaining ingredients, stirring well after each addition. Cook until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth. |
4. | Allow the dressing to cool completely before storing it in a refrigerator-safe container. Seal tightly. The dressing will keep well for approximately 6 weeks. Avoid freezing. |
5. | Creamy Italian Colonial Variation: After preparing the base dressing (and allowing it to cool), incorporate 1 tablespoon of prepared mustard, 1 tablespoon of light corn syrup, 1 tablespoon of dried oregano leaves, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/2 cup of mayonnaise. Mix well and refrigerate. Do not freeze. |
6. | Catalina Colonial Variation: Enhance the prepared dressing with 1 cup of ketchup and 1/2 cup of sweet pickle relish. |
