Preparation of Cake Batter
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and generously grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate together over low heat, stirring gently.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Pour in the melted chocolate mixture, buttermilk, and room temperature eggs.
- Mix on low speed until well combined, then increase to high speed and beat for about 2 minutes until the batter is light and fluffy.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
