2 ounces unsweetened chocolate squares
1 ¾ cups flour
½ teaspoon baking soda

½ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (12 ounce) package chocolate chips
½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

  • For preparing the cookie batter

    1. Cream butter and shortening together, gradually adding sugar until well combined.
    2. Beat the mixture thoroughly, then add the egg and continue to beat.
    3. Melt unsweetened chocolate in a double boiler, then stir it into the creamed mixture.
