Ingredients

4 lbs pork ribs, membrane removed
3 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon Hickory smoke salt, or substitute Hickory liquid smoke
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground red pepper (optional)
2 cups your favorite barbecue sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray)

Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with two layers of foil, shiny side out.
    2. Remove the tough membrane covering the bony side of the ribs.
    3. Season the ribs with salt, pepper, and if desired, a sprinkle of Hickory liquid smoke.
    4. In a medium bowl, mix together light brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, and ground red pepper. Rub the mixture onto all sides of the ribs.
    5. Place the ribs on the prepared baking sheet, meaty side down, and tightly cover with foil.
    6. Bake in the oven for 2-2 1/2 hours, until the meat starts to pull away from the bones.
    7. Remove from the oven and set the broiler to high.
    8. Cut the ribs into serving-sized portions and place them on a broiler pan, bony side up.
    9. Brush the ribs with barbecue sauce and broil for 1-2 minutes until the sauce is caramelized and bubbly.
    10. Turn the ribs over and repeat the sauce and broiling process. Alternatively, grill the ribs for added smoky flavor.
