Capers and Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Sauce

A savory and flavorful pasta sauce featuring a combination of capers and sun-dried tomatoes, perfectly paired with a variety of optional ingredients.

½ | lb ground pork |
1 | small onion |
2 | garlic cloves |
1 | tablespoon extra virgin olive oil |
1 | teaspoon basil |
1 | teaspoon oregano |
½ | teaspoon salt |
6-10 | sun-dried tomatoes |
¼ | cup fresh basil (optional) |
⅛ | cup fresh oregano (optional) |
2 | medium carrots, sliced (optional) |
1 | bell pepper (optional) |
Instructions

- In a large fry pan, sauté the small onion and garlic cloves in extra virgin olive oil until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef, ground pork, and salt to the pan, and brown over medium-high heat.
- Before the beef and pork are completely cooked through, reduce the heat to low and incorporate the Italian-style peeled tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, and capers with brine.
- Chop the sun-dried tomatoes and introduce them to the pan. Feel free to add any optional ingredients at this stage, if desired.
- Simmer the sauce over low heat for 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
