Ingredients

1 teaspoon capers (with brine)
28 Italian-style peeled tomatoes
4 tomato paste
½ lb ground beef
½ lb ground pork
1 small onion
2 garlic cloves
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon oregano
½ teaspoon salt
6-10 sun-dried tomatoes
¼ cup fresh basil (optional)
cup fresh oregano (optional)
2 medium carrots, sliced (optional)
1 bell pepper (optional)

Instructions

1. In a large fry pan, sauté the small onion and garlic cloves in extra virgin olive oil until fragrant.
2. Add the ground beef, ground pork, and salt to the pan, and brown over medium-high heat.
3. Before the beef and pork are completely cooked through, reduce the heat to low and incorporate the Italian-style peeled tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, and capers with brine.
4. Chop the sun-dried tomatoes and introduce them to the pan. Feel free to add any optional ingredients at this stage, if desired.
5. Simmer the sauce over low heat for 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
6. Serve and enjoy!
