A timeless and elegant French custard sauce, perfect for drizzling over desserts or enjoying on its own.

Ingredients

cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
¾ cup 2% low-fat milk

Instructions

    1. In a mixing bowl, delicately whisk together sugar, egg, and fragrant vanilla essence.
    2. In a small saucepan, gently heat the milk over medium heat until steaming. Slowly incorporate a small amount into the egg mixture, stirring constantly to blend, then pour the mixture back into the saucepan. (This gradual process prevents the formation of scrambled eggs).
    3. Stir the mixture over low heat, ensuring to constantly whisk, for 5 to 8 minutes or until it slightly thickens. Avoid boiling the sauce.
    4. Transfer the luscious sauce into a clean bowl. To prevent a skin from forming, place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface of the sauce. Refrigerate until chilled.
