olive oil, for frying
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
1 (24 count) box of store-bought cheese ravioli (about 24 ravioli)
¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
store-bought marinara sauce, heated, for dipping

Instructions

  • For frying the ravioli

    1. Heat enough olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat to reach a depth of 2 inches, until a deep-fry thermometer registers 325°F (163°C).
    2. Prepare two separate shallow bowls, one with buttermilk and the other with Italian seasoned breadcrumbs.
    3. Working in batches, coat each ravioli thoroughly in buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip back into the bowl.
    4. Dredge the buttermilk-coated ravioli in the breadcrumbs, then place them on a baking sheet, repeating with the remaining ravioli.
    5. Once the oil is hot, fry the ravioli in batches, turning occasionally, until they achieve a golden-brown crispiness, which should take around 3 minutes.
    6. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried ravioli to paper towels to drain off any excess oil.
    7. Sprinkle the crispy fried ravioli with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and serve alongside a bowl of warmed marinara sauce for dipping.
