4 cups caramel sauce (see separate recipe)
1 large loaf bread, chopped into cubes
5 large eggs
3 cups half-and-half
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
    2. Generously coat the bottom of a 13 x 9 baking pan with 1 cup of luscious Caramel Sauce. Refrigerate until ready to assemble the pudding.
    3. Cut the large loaf of bread into 1-inch cubes, using a French bread or Challah for best results.
    4. Spread the bread cubes onto a sheet pan in a single layer. Toast in the oven for approximately 10-12 minutes until lightly browned.
    5. Reduce the oven temperature to 325°F. Do not overlook this crucial step, highlighted by experience!
    6. In a medium bowl, combine the large eggs, half-and-half, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix in 1 1/2 cups of the divine caramel sauce.
    7. Transfer the toasted bread cubes into a very spacious bowl and pour the egg mixture over them. Gently toss until all the cubes are evenly coated.
    8. Allow the mixture to rest for 20 minutes, gently stirring occasionally to ensure all cubes are soaked through.
    9. Spread the soaked bread evenly over the caramel layer in the 13 x 9 pan.
    10. Bake on the lower oven rack for 45 minutes until the pudding is set and golden brown.
    11. Let the bread pudding cool for 30 minutes before serving. Drizzle with the remaining decadent caramel sauce for a luxurious finish.
