Decadent Chocolate Turtle Cake

1.33 | cup oil (or as called for by your cake mix) |
1.33 | cups cups water (or as called for by your cake mix) |
1 | (14 ounce) bag caramels |
1⁄2 | cup evaporated milk |
3⁄4 | cup melted butter |
2 | cups pecans |
1 | cup cup chocolate chips |
Instructions

- Prepare the German chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions.
- Pour half of the cake batter into a 13x9 inch baking pan.
- Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes until the cake is slightly set.
- Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool.
- Using a double boiler, combine the caramels, evaporated milk, and melted butter. Stir continuously until the caramels are completely melted.
- Pour the warm caramel mixture over the cooled cake, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of pecans and chocolate chips on top of the caramel layer.
- Carefully spread the remaining cake batter over the pecans and chocolate chips.
- Return the cake to the oven and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
