Ingredients

1 (18 ounce) box German chocolate cake mix
3 eggs (or as called for by your cake mix)
1.33 cup oil (or as called for by your cake mix)
1.33 cups cups water (or as called for by your cake mix)
1 (14 ounce) bag caramels
12 cup evaporated milk
34 cup melted butter
2 cups pecans
1 cup cup chocolate chips

Instructions

    1. Prepare the German chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions.
    2. Pour half of the cake batter into a 13x9 inch baking pan.
    3. Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes until the cake is slightly set.
    4. Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool.
    5. Using a double boiler, combine the caramels, evaporated milk, and melted butter. Stir continuously until the caramels are completely melted.
    6. Pour the warm caramel mixture over the cooled cake, spreading it evenly.
    7. Sprinkle 1 cup of pecans and chocolate chips on top of the caramel layer.
    8. Carefully spread the remaining cake batter over the pecans and chocolate chips.
    9. Return the cake to the oven and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    10. Allow the cake to cool slightly before serving. Slice, serve, and enjoy the indulgent flavors of this chocolate turtle cake.
