Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In an ungreased 9x9x2 inch square pan, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
- Add milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients, and mix with a fork until smooth.
- Stir in the chopped nuts, if desired.
- Evenly spread the batter in the pan.
- Sprinkle the packed brown sugar and 1/4 cup of cocoa over the batter.
- Carefully pour the very hot water evenly over the batter.
- Bake for about 40 minutes or until the top is dry.
