A versatile and elegant dish, these fish tacos feature a delightful sweet cabbage salsa and a creamy lime yogurt sauce. For those who prefer, the recipe can also be made with chicken breast.

Ingredients

1/2 medium head cabbage, shredded
2 medium tomatoes, chopped, or more to taste
2 cups cups chopped fresh cilantro, divided
1 medium jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
1 cup medium limes, juiced, divided
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon mayonnaise, or more to taste
1 tablespoon dried dill weed
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, divided, or to taste
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon sumac powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
4 (4 ounce) tilapia fillets
1 tablespoon olive oil
8 (6 inch) flour tortillas

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, chopped tomatoes, 1 1/2 cups of fresh cilantro, minced jalapeno pepper, honey, and 3/4 of the lime juice. Mix well and season with salt and pepper.
2. In a small bowl, mix plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of cilantro, remaining lime juice, dried dill, and 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne. Season with salt to taste. Adjust the tartness by adding more mayonnaise if desired.
3. Combine dried oregano, sumac powder, ground cumin, and the remaining 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Rub this spice mix onto both sides of the tilapia fillets.
4. Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the tilapia fillets and cook until blackened and the fish flakes easily with a fork, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove from heat.
5. Warm the flour tortillas in a dry skillet over medium-high heat for 30 to 60 seconds per side.
6. Place blackened tilapia onto each tortilla and top with the cabbage salsa. Fold the tortillas in half and return them to the hot skillet to lightly crisp on each side. Serve immediately with the creamy lime yogurt sauce on the side as a dip.
