For the Cookies
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, combine softened butter, sugar, and almond extract.
- Using a mixer on medium speed, beat the mixture until creamy, scraping the bowl occasionally.
- Reduce the mixer speed to low and add the flour, baking powder, and mix until well combined.
- Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and place them 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Flatten the balls to 1/4-inch thickness using the bottom of a buttered glass dipped in sugar.
- Bake for 7-9 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned. Allow to cool for 1 minute before removing from the sheets.
- Cool the cookies completely before decorating with the almond glaze and sliced almonds.
