Ingredients

4 medium apples, peeled and cored
1 tablespoon lemon juice
6 tablespoons vanilla sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
teaspoon ground cardamom
2 ¾ cups sifted flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
4 eggs
2 cups vanilla sugar
1 cup oil
cup orange juice

Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
    3. Thinly slice the apples. In a bowl, mix the sliced apples with lemon juice, vanilla sugar, cinnamon, and a hint of ground cardamom. Set the mixture aside.
    4. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until foamy.
    5. Gradually beat in vanilla sugar until the mixture is thick and fluffy. Slowly pour the oil into the egg mixture while continuously beating, mix until well blended. Add the dry ingredients one-third at a time, alternating with orange juice. Beat with a wooden spoon until the batter is smooth.
    6. Pour one-third of the batter into the prepared pan.
    7. Drain the liquid from the apples and arrange half of the slices on top of the batter. Add another one-third of the batter, then the remaining apples, and finally, top with the last one-third of the batter.
    8. Bake for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until the cake springs back when touched. Allow the cake to cool thoroughly before removing it from the pan.
    9. Dust the cake with powdered sugar before serving.
