1 cup white sugar
¼ cup fresh mint leaves (Optional)
1 lemon, zested, or more to taste
1 cup fresh lemon juice
½ cup limoncello liqueur

  • Preparation

    1. Combine 1 cup of cold water, white sugar, and optional fresh mint leaves in a saucepan over medium heat. Allow it to come to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely, approximately 5 minutes. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the lemon zest. Let the syrup cool slightly for about 10 minutes.
    2. Mix the remaining 1 1/2 cups of cold water with fresh lemon juice and limoncello liqueur into the minty syrup.
    3. Pour the combined mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually for 10 to 15 minutes. Freeze the sorbet until it reaches a firm consistency, about 6 hours.
