Instructions

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the sliced tart apples and pure maple syrup to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes or until the apples are soft.
- Add raisins and chopped walnuts, then remove the mixture from the heat.
- Pour the apple mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and chopped butter. Use a fork to mix until fine crumbs are formed.
- In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, beaten egg, and pure vanilla extract. Pour this mixture over the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the warm apple mixture in the baking dish.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
