Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
    2. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the sliced tart apples and pure maple syrup to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes or until the apples are soft.
    3. Add raisins and chopped walnuts, then remove the mixture from the heat.
    4. Pour the apple mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish.
    5. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and chopped butter. Use a fork to mix until fine crumbs are formed.
    6. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, beaten egg, and pure vanilla extract. Pour this mixture over the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
    7. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the warm apple mixture in the baking dish.
    8. Bake for 30 minutes.
