Recipe
Spicy Bacon Cheeseburgers

The heat in these burgers is built in, not piled on: minced jalapeño is worked directly into the beef along with garlic and onion powder, so every bite carries a low, even burn. Grilled and topped with Monterey Jack that melts into the char and a crisscross of bacon, they're a two-person cookout that takes 25 minutes, buns to plate.
Ingredients
1⁄2 | pound lean ground beef |
|---|---|
1⁄4 | teaspoon salt |
1⁄4 | teaspoon pepper |
1⁄4 | teaspoon garlic powder |
1⁄4 | teaspoon onion powder |
1 -2 | jalapeno pepper, thinly sliced |
6 | cooked bacon, drained |
2 | slices monterey jack cheese slices |
2 | hamburger buns |
Instructions
| 1. | In a mixing bowl, thoroughly combine the lean ground beef with the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Be careful not to overwork the meat. Form the mixture into two equally sized patties. |
|---|---|
| 2. | Grill the burger patties to your desired level of doneness. |
| 3. | Just before removing the burgers from the grill, top each patty with sliced jalapeno peppers, a slice of Monterey Jack cheese, and three strips of crispy bacon. Allow the cheese to melt slightly before taking the burgers off the grill; the cheese will help hold the toppings together. |
| 4. | Place each burger patty on a hamburger bun and savor the delicious combination of flavors. For an extra kick, consider adding sliced red onions and a generous portion of guacamole on top. |
