1 | teaspoon grated orange rind |
Instructions

For the Bread
- Cream the butter in a bowl until smooth. Add the packed brown sugar, mixing until well blended.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time.
- Blend in the mashed sweet potatoes, nutmeg, and allspice, mixing well.
- Add the sifted self-rising flour alternately with milk, mixing until smooth. Fold in the chopped pecans and grated orange rind.
- Transfer the batter to a greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 5/8 inch loaf pan.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the loaf springs back to the touch and starts to leave the sides of the pan.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan on a rack for 10 minutes. Shake the loaf loose and turn it out onto a rack to cool completely before wrapping it in foil to store.
- Slice and serve the bread plain or with butter or softened cream cheese.
