Recipe

This French toast uses thick slices of bread soaked in a lightly sweetened egg custard with vanilla and cinnamon. Cook it on a buttered griddle until the centers are tender and the outsides are golden.

2 | tablespoons granulated sugar |
1 | teaspoon vanilla extract |

1 | tablespoon unsalted butter, for the griddle |
| 1. | Whisk the eggs in a shallow dish until smooth. |

| 5. | Cook the soaked bread on the hot griddle until the bottom is golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes. |

| 7. | Repeat with the remaining slices, adding more butter to the griddle as needed. |
