French bread soaks in an egg and whole-milk custard scented with vanilla and cinnamon, then bakes under a layer of butter, brown sugar, pecans and maple syrup that caramelizes in the oven. It's French toast made for a crowd — eight servings from one pan, no standing at the griddle. The pecan-maple topping is what makes it worth turning the oven on.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Decadent Baked French Toast

1
French bread loaf, sliced into 1-inch pieces
8
eggs
3
cups whole milk
2
tablespoons pure sugar
1
tablespoon Vanilla extract
12
teaspoon cinnamon
1
dash Salt
Maple Syrup
12
pound Butter
1
cup fine chopped pecans
1
cup brown sugar

Instructions

For Preparing and Baking the French Toast

1. Slice the French bread into approximately 20 pieces, each around 1 inch thick. Arrange the slices in a large greased 9x13 inch pan, ensuring some may overlap.
2. In a large bowl, lightly whisk together the eggs, whole milk, pure sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a dash of salt. Pour the mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are fully soaked. Drizzle a light amount of maple syrup over the top.
3. Cover the pan and refrigerate overnight. The next day, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

For Topping and Baking the French Toast

1. In a bowl, mix the chopped pecans, butter, and brown sugar. Spread this mixture on top of the soaked bread slices.
2. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 35 minutes until golden and set. Serve with additional maple syrup and butter. Enjoy!
