1 dense bread, of your choice (e.g., Tuscan hearty loaf)
16 ounces mushrooms
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon cream
garlic salt (to taste)
non-stick butter-flavored cooking spray
fresh chives (to garnish) (optional)
butter (optional) or cream cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • For making elegant mushroom canapes

    1. Preheat a skillet and slice the bread, removing the crust and cutting into squares or shapes with cookie cutters.
    2. Lightly coat the skillet with non-stick spray or butter and toast the bread on one side over low to medium-low heat until golden brown.
