Hearty Frito Chili Pie
A comforting and flavorful chili dish served over a bed of crunchy Fritos, topped with shredded cheddar cheese.
Ingredients
1 | lb ground chuck |

1⁄2 | lb ground sausage (I use mild pork sausage) |
4 | garlic cloves, crushed |
1 | small onion, chopped or 2 tablespoons minced onion flakes |
1 | teaspoon Worcestershire sauce |
1 | (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes |
1 | (15 ounce) can tomato sauce |
1 | (6 ounce) can tomato paste |
2 | (15 ounce) cans light kidney beans, drained |
1 | teaspoon heaping cumin |
2 | teaspoons chili powder |
1 | teaspoon smoked paprika |
1 | teaspoon heaping parsley flakes |
1⁄2 | teaspoon cayenne pepper |
1⁄2 | teaspoon seasoning salt |
1⁄2 | teaspoon black pepper |
1⁄2 | teaspoon red pepper flakes (omit this if you don't want zing) |
1⁄2 | teaspoon baking soda |
1 | tablespoon brown sugar |

Instructions
1. | In a dutch oven or large pot, combine the ground chuck, ground sausage, crushed garlic, chopped onions, Worcestershire sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, drained light kidney beans, heaping cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, heaping parsley flakes, cayenne pepper, seasoning salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (omit if desired). |

2. | Cook the mixture until the beef and sausage are browned. Drain any excess grease. |
3. | Reduce heat to medium, then add baking soda and brown sugar to the pot. |
4. | Simmer the chili on medium-low heat for 40 minutes. |
5. | To Serve: |
6. | Place a layer of Fritos on a plate or in a bowl. |
7. | Spoon the chili over the Fritos. |
8. | Garnish with your desired amount of shredded cheddar cheese. |
