Spicy Beef Au Gratin Bake
A delicious and spicy twist on a classic beef and potato bake, topped with melted cheddar cheese.
Ingredients
3⁄4 | lb ground beef |
---|---|
1⁄3 | cup finely chopped white onion |
1⁄2 | teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes |
1⁄4 | teaspoon seasoning salt |
1 | package (5 ¼ ounce) package au gratin potatoes |
2 | cups boiling water |
0.67 | cup milk |
1 | teaspoon melted butter or margarine |
1⁄4 | teaspoon ground black pepper |
1⁄4 | cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese |
Instructions
1. | Preheat the oven to 400°F. |

2. | In a medium non-stick skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, finely chopped white onion, crushed red pepper flakes, and seasoning salt until the meat is no longer pink and the onion is tender. |
3. | Drain the meat mixture if necessary. |
4. | While the meat is browning, bring water to a boil. |
5. | In a large bowl, combine the au gratin potatoes mix, boiling water, milk, melted butter, and ground black pepper. Mix well. |
6. | Pour the mixture into a greased 2-quart baking dish. |
7. | Cover the dish with a lid or foil and bake for 30 minutes. |
8. | Sprinkle the shredded sharp cheddar cheese over the top and continue baking until the cheese is melted and lightly browned. |
